Elnathan is six months old next week. He now enjoys trying to sit up to play, but doesn't have the balance to sit alone yet. Today I went to mother's group and saw this handy solution - the washing basket seat! Supervision is required, as unbalanced little ones can end up slumped against the sides. Some padding would also help, perhaps a blanket or quilt to soften the sides of the basket. My friend at mother's group had placed a doona over the basket for padding.
He's so adorable, Sherrin! We used the same idea for Hans for a while as a nice convenient mini-playpen. He would sit in a laundry basket during meals at other's houses or other times when I needed to be sitting at the table without him grabbing things), and I would stick one of my feet in the basket to hold it down so it wouldn't tip. This was really helpful when we were eating at someone else's house without a playpen or booster seat! Everyone has a laundry basket available :-).
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to use when at others' houses! Tipping is the main hazard, as you say, but I figure that at least he doesn't have far to fall!
