This Saturday is Federal election day in Australia.
I would like to draw your attention to Jacquie Petrusma whom I believe is an excellent Tasmanian candidate for the Senate.
I am grateful that the Family First party provides an option for those of us who find it difficult to vote for anyone who opposes Christian values.
Why not vote for someone who shares our love for Christ?

hehe, you know she's my aunt? :)
ReplyDeletesure wish we had some Christian values people running for president here in the US!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that, Natasha!
ReplyDeleteI am sad about the present US situation too, Faith. It is hard sometimes to keep the perspective that God is active in our countries. Dave and I struggled with this in our recent election result.
Family First are an interesting one. Some of their policies are great but they don't seem to extend very far. The slogan of Family First worries me too - 'your family first' - it strikes me as a little selfish. Shouldn't we vote for the marginal and in the best interests of those who really need it regardless of whether the politician is a Christian?
ReplyDeleteHi Bec,
ReplyDeleteI agree that "Family First" is a less than ideal name. However, I don't think we have any ideal choices in the present political climate!
How we should vote, and upon what values, is a good question. Personally, I think that the Bible encourages us toward the view that godly, Christian leadership will always be in the best interests of a nation. For example, policies that are designed to assist "your family" will also assist families who are not as prosperous. For example, income splitting would assist poor couples as well as richer ones.
