Slowing down

I have made a lot of progress with my hand patchwork since I started. These are all the completed blocks laid out on a blanket.

One of the reasons Dave loves my patchwork is that it helps me to slow down and sit a while doing something peaceful.

Tonight I read a prayer in a precious handmade book of quotes and pictures a friend gave me a couple of Christmases ago:

In the name of Jesus Christ, who was never in a hurry, we pray, O God, that you will slow us down, for we know that we live too fast. With all of eternity before us, make us take time to live - time to get acquainted with You, time to enjoy Your blessings, and time to know each other. Peter Marshall.
How desperately I need that, especially at a time when I've been fighting a lot of negative and/or sinful emotions and often feel stressed. For me, right now, quietly sitting and stitching is a God-send. So I'm off to sit with my honey and stitch!

  3. Those are beautiful!
    Emotions aren't really "sinful" though...
They are given to us by God...but...it is how we respond to them (in my humble opinion) that can make them "sinful"...what we do with them, how we treat others because of them, etc.

    Enjoy your quiet moments!!

  4. Hello Faith,

    Thanks for your comment :)

I guess whether or not emotions are sinful depends upon whether they are a right response to a situation. If we grieve something like a death, that is right. If we are frustrated, angry, anxious, and fearful about relationships and events that is sinful! I'm often in the sinful category lately!

I'm hoping to share some of my strategies to overcome these emotions, and ask for others' thoughts, at some point.

  5. Great work, Sharon! Is that denim behind the squares? My grandmother has a quilt that is denim on one side (comprised of squares from old outfits). The denim makes it wonderful to sleep under - heavy and warm!

  6. Oh wow, how industrious of your gran! Denim would be very heavy to sew, but it would be nice and heavy.

I've just got my squares on a blue blanket right now, as I don't have my sashing fabric yet. I'm thinking of a darker blue.
