We're home owners!

This afternoon I received the news that we are now the official owners of this comfortable and spacious residence with a very neglected garden! We've been living here for a year, but it is still exciting to become the owners.

If we don't go to South Africa next month we'll have plenty to do improving our garden before Dave starts work as a CSIRO post-Doc in September. Our travel plans are still on hold - decision pending - as there was an issue with Dave's working visa application and it now won't come through for at least a month. We don't want Dave to be refused re-entry to Australia, so we are checking out the stipulations of his current bridging visa.

July should be a perpetual month of thankfulness for us: Dave has handed in his PhD (yay!), Dave signed a contract for a job (Yay!) and we have bought a home. Maybe we'll create a yearly family celebration of God's provision. What an ideal time to remember that God is alive and at work on our behalf: in the middle of winter, when all is cold and dark!

  1. Celebration time, indeed! Your house looks very nice. I bet those big windows are a great help in dark winters. And congratulations to your husband on his Ph.D; that is quite an accomplishment!

    How cold are Australian winters?

  2. It depends where you live. Tasmania and Victoria are the coldest, but by US standards even they have mild winters! It is often cold, and there are frosts, but no snow in most places.

In fact, saying that "all is cold and dark" is an exageration: we have much shorter days (so more darkness), and it is cold, but the sun still shines and the daffodils have even started blooming :)

  3. Congratulations! Got to be exciting, I'm looking forward to the day when we get our own place, but as it is, tomorrow is moving from a rental to a rental. Don't mind the change but I wouldn't mind the flexibility you get with your own place. Enjoy it :)

  6. Sherrin!
Such a wonderful time of blessings! Congratulations to Dave! It is a great accomplishment when one finishes a PhD. My husband worked part-time on his. It took 9 years!! but when it was done, I was so proud of him. It was a long and hard season ending in accomplishment and open doors of opportunity not granted without it.
